Making this dream a reality has been an ambitious project and a huge investment. We are beyond thrilled to see it come alive! We are also incredibly grateful for the donations we’ve received from friends, colleagues, burners, artists, and science enthusiasts to help us along the way. While the biggest costs are behind us, we do have more upcoming for the next stage of work. It takes a LOT of generosity to support art like this and that’s why we’re happy to be transparent about how we spend.

The carousel took a break in 2025 after being interrupted in 2025 by the Eaton fire. We are grateful that our home and the carousel both survived the fire, and we’re setting our sights to return to Burning Man in 2026. Time to roll up our sleeves and get working again! This season we plan to re-paint the scenery panels and we have some other miscellaneous construction and fabrication work to do. Our biggest cost will be transportation to and from the event.
A list of our expected costs is below based on our experience from 2024. If we are blessed by generosity and somehow raise more than we need to cover these base costs, any extra will go towards our stretch goal to powder coat the carousel’s poles to mitigate flaking paint.
Direct donations provide the most support, but we’ll also get a few $ if you buy a t-shirt 🙂
